Abstract

The development of the gig economy in the online transportation sector has created more flexible employment opportunities for the community. However, this working system may also increase the risk of work-related stress due to income uncertainty, extended working hours, and competition among drivers for orders. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between working hours, the number of orders, and competition among drivers with work-related stress among Maxim online motorized pedicab (bentor) drivers in Gorontalo City. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 72 respondents were recruited using an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test to examine the relationships between the independent variables and work-related stress. The results indicated that working hours (p=0.670) and the number of orders (p=0.056) had no statistically significant relationships with work-related stress. In contrast, competition among drivers was significantly associated with work-related stress (p=0.023). These findings suggest that competition for orders is an important aspect to consider when addressing the risk of work-related stress among online transportation drivers. Therefore, Maxim is encouraged to consider implementing a more equitable order distribution system and providing education on stress management and occupational health to support drivers' well-being.
