Abstract

The Informatics Engineering Department at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo (UNG) does not yet have an integrated management information system at the department level, so students, lecturers, and administrative staff must navigate separate platforms, such as SIAT/SIAKAD and SISKP, to meet their daily academic and administrative needs. This fragmentation (data silos) leads to inefficiency and low user satisfaction, yet no user-centered interface currently unifies these services at the department level. This study therefore aims to design a user interface (UI/UX) for a department-level Management Information System (SIM) using a Design Thinking approach, and to quantitatively evaluate its usability and user experience quality. Design Thinking was applied through five stages: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. User needs were identified through user journey observations and in-depth interviews, and were then synthesized into Empathy Maps, Affinity Diagrams, and User Personas for three primary user groups: students, lecturers, and administrative staff. The Ideate stage produced an information architecture, user flows, and wireframes, which were subsequently developed into a high-fidelity interactive prototype in Figma. Design feasibility was evaluated with 30 respondents using the System Usability Scale (SUS) and the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). The prototype obtained an average SUS score of 83.67, classified as Acceptable (Grade B) with a "Good" rating, and an "Excellent" rating on all six UEQ scales: Stimulation (2.583), Attractiveness (2.572), Efficiency (2.525), Accuracy (2.525), Clarity (2.400), and Novelty (2.342), placing it in the top 10% of 468 digital products in the international UEQ benchmark database. The study's output is a validated high-fidelity interactive prototype covering 11 user flows for three primary user roles, providing a ready-to-use technical blueprint for the department's full system development.
