Industry 4.0-Based Schools in Vocational High Schools

This study aims to describe the implementation of an Industry 4.0-
based school at State Vocational High School (SMK) 5 of Gorontalo
City, focusing on three aspects: (1) strategic planning program, (2)
program implementation, and (3) program achievement. A qualitative
approach with a case study design was employed, conducted from
April to May 2026. Data sources included the school principal, viceprincipals, department heads, and productive teachers. Data were
collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and
documentation, then analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana's
interactive model. Data validity was verified through source
triangulation and technique triangulation. Findings reveal that: (1)
Strategic planning was carried out through six systematic stages:
environmental analysis (SWOT), vision and mission formulation,
strategic goal setting, program development, implementation, and
evaluation. The school leveraged its strengths in industry
partnerships and master's-qualified teachers, supported by
government funding under Director General of Vocational Education
Decree No. 127/D/M/2023; (2) Program implementation proceeded
in three phases—preparation (managing Rp1.9 billion in government
grants), strategic planning (benchmarking, industry-based
curriculum development, MoU, and TEFA 4.0 SOPs), and execution
(22-module training, construction of a two-floor TEFA building with
Smart Classroom, and procurement of industry-standard equipment);
(3) Program achievements include enhanced student creativity
through technology-based projects (robots, IoT automation),
improved teacher competence in Smart Classroom and LMS use, a
block scheduling curriculum system, and strengthened graduate
readiness through TEFA practice and industry internships.
